The Power 4 Puerto Rico coalition will be hosting mobilizations in Mar-A-Lago, New York City, and Washington D.C., on September 20 and 22, to demand justice for Puerto Rico one year after Hurricane Maria.
“Thousands of Puerto Ricans were killed by or as a result of Maria. Over 5,000 families evacuated to New York City for medical care, support and safety, thousands remain here,” read a post from NYC based organization NYDIS, hosting a candle light vigil and march to Trump Tower on September 20.
A George Washington University study commissioned by the Government of Puerto Rico, found that “there were an estimated 2,975 excess deaths in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.”
The Power 4 Puerto Rico coalition includes organizations such as Make The Road New York, The Puerto Rican Cultural Center, Vamos 4 Puerto Rico, Hispanic Federation, BoricuActívate, Alianza for Progress, and the Hispanic National Bar Association.
