In honor of #EqualPayDay on April 10, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) once again highlighted its Gender Pay Gap report, showing that “women who work full-time in the United States are paid just 80 percent of what men are paid, on average”.
The report also shows greater disparities among Latinas, at 54%, and African-American women at 63%.
“For too long, we’ve heard that women make 80 cents on the dollar compared to men, and the pay gap has only decreased by a nickel in the past 20 years,” Kim Churches, AAUW CEO, said in a statement.
Wondering what you can do about the pay gap? Here’s a list of organizations to support:
- AAUW: “The American Association of University Women (AAUW) empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.”
- Equal Rights Advocates (ERA): ERA is a civil rights organization, “fighting since 1974 to expand and protect the opportunities of all women and girls.”
- National Women’s Law Center: “The Center has worked for more than 40 years to protect and promote equality and opportunity for women and families. We champion policies and laws that help women and girls achieve their potential at every stage of their lives — at school, at work, at home, and in retirement.”
